Summer is one of the best times to be in Chicago and getting to experience the city with a pet can be amazing! Here are some events in the Chicagoland area that are designed just for your furry family member!
Subaru Dog Wash
On July 18 at Evanston Subaru, C.A.R.E. (Community Animal Rescue Effort) is holding a FREE dog wash. All you need to do is bring your dog to the dealership, and volunteers from C.A.R.E. will give your dog a bath! For every dog bathed, Evanston Subaru will donate $10 to C.A.R.E. For more information, call (847) 705-2653 or e-mail: email@example.com.
On July 23 PAWS is throwing their annual Beach Party at Castaways at North Avenue Beach. Guests can bring their dogs, who will be ready to play in the sand! While enjoying “pawgaritas,” guests can participate in an auction and raffle, listen to music and dance! Your furry family member can be pampered at the complimentary pet spa while you enjoy dinner and dancing. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here
Walk of Love
Help support the Heartland Animal Shelter by participating in their Walk of Love 2K. On July 25 you can walk with or without your dog through the Blue Star Memorial Forest Preserve in Glenview. Besides the walk, there is breakfast, puppy pools, photography, a pet caricaturist and shopping opportunities. For more information or to register, click here.
Stray Cat Strut
While bringing cats to events may be difficult, there are other ways to support our feline community. On August 1, Treehouse Humane Society is hosting the Stray Cat Strut to help raise funds for their new adoption center and veterinary clinic, as well as promote spay/neuter information. This is a 5K walk that starts and ends at the Treehouse shelter headquarters at 1212 W. Carmen Ave. For more information or to register, click here.
Bark at the Park
Every year the Chicago White Sox host two games where dogs are allowed to attend with their owners! Unfortunately Dog Day was canceled earlier this year due to the Canine Influenza outbreak, but fear not baseball fans, you can bring your dog to Bark at the Park on September 16. The game starts at 7:10 pm and it’s against the Oakland Athletics. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Chicago White Sox at: (312) 674-5244 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Besides these fun events, if you want to sit on the patio with your pet, here is a list of all the dog friendly restaurants in Chicago. Don’t fret cat owners, as part of Treehouse’s new adoption center and veterinray clinic, there will be a Cat’fe opening! This cafe lets you enjoy coffee and tea among frolicking felines! While there isn’t a date yet for the grand opening, click here for more information about the Cat’fe!
